Throughout the duration of my extended essay I will explore the "Monstrous Feminine" in relation to two generations of female artists in contemporary practice. I aim to create a framework and build an analysis of contemporary visual culture in relation to the existing phenomenon of the monstrous feminine. Using female artists from 1989 to 2013 while also exploring the significance of re-evaluating Kristeva's Theory of Abjection, Freudian Theory, and the notion of passive feminity to validate the significance of the Monstrous Feminine in contemporary visual culture.
