In this essay I will discuss the history of appropriation in both the art world and contemporary society, showing the value of copying in creativity. I will then talk about copyright laws and their alternatives in relation to art practice. The two main artists I focus on in this essay are Cory Arcangel and Addie Wagenknecht. The aim of the essay is to add to the global discussion of authorship and ownership in the digital age.
