520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This is a feel good story out of Africa. For more than 20 years, an amazing permaculture project has been working in Zimbabwe. Where once the people of the Chikukwa villages suffered hunger, malnutrition and high rates of disease, this community of seven thousand has turned its fortunes around. During this period they have built what is probably the biggest continuous permaculture site in the world today. Complementing permaculture strategies, they have built their community through locally controlled programs for conflict resolution, women’s empowerment, pre-school education and HIV management. Now they have a surplus of food and are healthy and proud of their achievements.. The film shows how this has happened. We go to the homes of villagers to show how they are protecting their landscape and growing sufficient food. The film shows us the way in which permaculture principles are embodied in the landscape developed by the villagers. This is a place in the world where permaculture ideas and permaculture concepts have become an everyday science. We see a mediation workshop to understand community processes developed by the project. Founders and current leaders of the project explain its history and what is happening today. The film takes us to a district project inspired by these developments. The film is engaging and moving, revelling in the lush paradise that the Chikukwa people have created.. This film has been selected for five international film festivals; Planet in Focus (Canada); CMS Vatavaran Environment and Wildlife Festival (India); Peace on Earth Festival (USA); Cinema Verde (USA); Awareness Festival (USA).. The film provides an inspiring demonstration of the alternative to dominant conceptions of development.. . Prominent environmentalist researcher, Ted Trainer. . This community have achieved soil conservation, food production and a healthy community on the monumental scale that the rest of the world just dreams about. Find out how they did it – see this movie and be empowered.. . Permaculture advocate and teacher, April Sampson-Kelly. . A must for students of development and permaculture.. . John Seed of the Rainforest Alliance and a founder of Deep Ecology. .
