Subject(s): Genre/Form: Online resources: Summary: Along with use of the internet, cases of child sex abuse have exploded in the last ten years. Images of child sex abuse continue to spread at unprecedented rates with tech platforms and law enforcement agencies unable to keep pace with the problem. In the UK, groups of vigilante paedophile hunters pose as children to trap predators. These groups have led to 1,000 paedophile arrests in the United Kingdom. But their tactics are controversial and eight people accused by them have committed suicide since 2013. To avoid detection, more and more pedophiles turn to the darknet. There, the latest trend is the live stream. From behind their computer screen, paedophiles pay for child abuse that is carried out live on camera. Most of these remotely-financed rapes take place in South East Asia, often by the victims’ parents. We join the police in the Philippines on a raid to rescue one victim.
