Abramović s original intentions and the facts behind the performance Rhythm 0 have become lost through the fiction of sensationalist critique and inaccurate discourse. Rhythm 0 explored the paradoxical maintenance of self-control while willingly surrendering all control. This paper examines the context in which the performance occurred to show how and why the outcome was significantly affected by manipulation of the audience.
