This paper explores the artistic practise of Spanish artist Santiago Sierra and the way that his work responds to the exploitation of labour, refugees and other marginalised groups in society. Sierra s appropriation of neoliberal capitalist practises to create scenarios of economic exploitation within an art gallery space will be analysed within the context of Marxist economic theory. Sierra s relationship with, and position in, the contemporary art world will also be an important focal point with regard to the ethical and political positions that Sierra inhabits within the field of artistic culture.
