Through analysis of specific works of German photographer Thomas Demand this essay investigates the space between reality and representation with a focus on the medium of photography and its relationship to reality, truth and authenticity. Drawing on the words of writers and philosophers such as Sontag and Barthes the photograph is scrutinized for its relationship to memory, time, death and the real. [Abstract].
