By using Jungian terms and concepts this thesis suggests that Hilma af Klint is an example of a visionary artist who seeks to understand how to integrate the conscious and the unconscious aspects of the psyche. In oder to do this, she meditated and acted as a medium in order to reach a higher level of consciousness. In this heightened state af Klint was experiencing an archetypal encounter creating paintings similar to the projections of symbolic imagery within alchemical texts. This research is important as it highlights the reoccurring theme within human development, the theme of uniting the unconscious and conscious aspects of the psyche in order to achieve psychological harmony.
