Originally produced by Frameline in 1991.

In Robert Hilferty's 1991 indictment of the Catholic church, the filmmaker looks at both sides of what this two-thousand-year-old power structure has meant to different people. Hilferty takes his audience from concept to fruition of the controversial demonstration against Cardinal John O'Connor at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City in 1989. Stop the Church is a success story about individuals working together to regain power over their lives by challenging the forces which would otherwise unfavorably determine their fate..
