The following text is an examination of Marianne Hirsch s theory of Post-memory in relation to the country of Yugoslavia through an analysis of the work of authors Rebecca West, Black Lamb and Grey Falcon (West, 1944), in contrast to contemporary artist Dragana Jurisic and her book YU the Lost Country (Jurisic, 2013). As well as Art Spiegelman s MAUS (Spiegelman, 1991) and the interlinking influence of Marianne Hirsch s the Generation of Post Memory (Hirsch, 2008) in relation to the stated artists above, as well as interviews which provide a firsthand account of life in Yugoslavia at the time of turmoil. A discussion on how these artists and theorists have informed my current studio practice will also be included. [Abstract]
