This text addresses the representation of the deceased cadaver in contemporary art, including studies of artists working within the realms of Fashion, Sculpture, Photography and Performance. Issues of aesthetics relative to historic death culture, alongside the desolate Victorian female, Freudian death theory and the visual duplication of the remorse are all discussed in relation to the construed elements of artistic morbidity in the modern day. Thesis submitted for B.A. Hons in Fine Art (Painting) 2015.
