Taking the work of designer Hussein Chalayan, I will investigate whether a connection can be drawn between direct influences on his work and the subsequent emergence of a trend from his concepts. I will explore how the trend is then taken further, showing the circular nature of the trend process. Through investigation I will establish that innovation in design is continuously being influenced by other pre-existing factors; this can refer to designers, figures ordinary, people, a way of thinking, or a product. I will propose that Innovation in design, such as HC, is directly linked to the creation and distribution of a trending fashion style, and shows that trends begin in a raw sometimes unwearable state of innovation, that eventually filters down to the mainstream market in the form of a wearable trend.
