This extended essay is a study of The Seduction of the Gothic and Female Representation in Painting and Photography. There is a particular emphasis on the nineteenth century, the Victorian Gothic, the Gothic female and the uncanny. This thesis attempts to uncover the connections between Gothic and Victorian culture and modern contemporary fashion design. I specifically focus on the highly sexualised clothing of Alexander McQueen and certain elements of his taboo-breaking runway shows which present Gothic and Victorian flamboyancies. [Abstract]
