This essay focuses on the meanings, validity and value of the Aran Sweater and how its associations have helped establish a financially viable knitwear industry in Ireland. It highlights the impact of fast fashion on the Irish knitwear industry today and debates if utilising Irish cultural identity is an important and valuable marketing srategy for contemporary Irish knitwear producers and designers.
