<br/><br/>Clay has been used as a medium for artists and craftspeople since time immemorial but its use has tended to be restricted to either a transitory tool for modelling or the means to create decorative, domestic ware.  This essay aims to explore the work of selected artists whose practice has transcended these narrow parameters and successfully crossed the parennial barrier between art and craft.
