Summary: Ed Wood is a writer and director with great ambitions. He makes a pitch for the job directing a film about the sex change of Christine Jorgensen. He feels he is qualified because he likes to wear women's clothes. He spots Bela Lugosi test lying a coffin and convinces him to appear in his movie. The film, Glen or Glenda, is a flop. His girlfriend, Dolores Fuller, leaves him because of his attire habits. Lugosi is suffering from drug addiction and Wood convinces him to get treatment. During the shooting of Plan 9 from outer space, he is driven from the set by his overbearing backers, but he meets his hero, Orson Welles, who convinces him to pursue his vision. Ed finishes the movie, which he is sure will be his masterpiece.
