In Matthias Weischer's work three-dimensional space as a universally understandable code and conveyer of emotions forms the starting point for the themes and motifs of his interiors. The artist used his grant of a one-year stay at the Villa Massimo in Rome in 2007 to provide a (provisional) break under his work and to apply himself to depictions of landscapes and graphic print techniques. Using ornament and a collage-like technique, outdoor spaces link up with interiors, to create an insight into the way the artist observes nature. The exhibition Room with a View at Kunsthalle Mainz in 2009 and this accompanying publication presented works from 2004 to 2008.
