In this final year project I will examine and explore the use and meaning of esoteric symbolism, drawn particularly from Freemasonry, in the visual output of American recording artists such as Kanye West and Katy Perry. I will investigate the meaning of the symbols used, as I seek to establish whether they are being employed as a stylistic device or whether they are being used by artists/directors that are involved with Freemasonry. I will also examine whether or not there is a social understanding of the symbols today.
