505 | 0 | _aThe aim of this thesis was to examine, compare and discuss the different styles in which artists represent their families through visual mediums. Some of the key themes and concepts which were focussed on in this research study were resemblance vs. representation, and making the private public. When portraying one's family, the artist must always make the key decisions of how much they wish to allow the audience to gaze upon, and how much of the interpretations are the audience allowed to make. Throughout this research study I will be examining the works of Sally Mann (photography), Richard Billingham (photography), Nicole A. Klein (non-representational), and Camilla Catrambone (non-representational), and I will be relating this to my own practice in the field of Fashion Design. | |
