505 0 _aThis extended essay aims to critique the use of the traditional black hairstyle the @Bantu knot' by fashion designer Marc Jacobs in his Spring/Summer 2015 show, and through investigation the theory surrounding cultural appropriation, identify what form of appropriation the designer engages in, while also identifying the problematic elements associated with the use of the hairstyle. This essay will also compare the use of the hairstyle to that of another western fashion designer, Valentino, who has on more than one occasion been seen using traditional black hairstyles on his models.
