The fashion industry is experiencing a movement of designers and companies who are working in resistance to the system of fast fashion production. The importance of craft within the context of sustainable fashion design became apparent to me during the course of my studies when I completed an intership alongside a Dutch fashion and textile designer, Hellen Van Rees. By examining the business models and design processes of a number of designers and companies who are working sustainably, I will outline whether craft can be utilised as a way to change the current environmental and ethical issues within the fashion industry. | |
