This essay investigates the use of art to cope with separation anxiety originating in early life. It examines the early work of artist Grayson Perry as an example of how separation in childhood has an immense effect on the adults we become. It identifies this theory with a selection of psychological studies such as John Bolwby's attachment theory. It references the work of Morton Bartlett and Henry Darger as artists who have also used art as a form of therapy to accept separation. The term Separation Art is established to explain this form of art.
