By aiming to identify, define and re-define the archives, function and purpose in contemporary art practice today. When situated in this context, it can be opened for critical interpretation and metaphoric analysis. Through the artworks of Tacita Dean, Rachel Whiteread and Rosa Barbra. by creating an archive out of pre-existing ones, the localization of the archive within contemporary practice as a site of remembrance and forgetting is evident.
